This page compares the scene shown on an old postcard with how that scene looks today.
With carefull planning and study of the original postcard I have attempted to take the present day photograph from exactly the same location, using the same lens focal length and in similar lighting conditions; a technique popularly known as rephotography.
Broadford Old Church and Blaven
The publisher and date of the then postcard is unknown. However on a future visit to the area it should be possible to roughly date the postcard based on the dates recorded on the memorials and headstones that only appear in the now photograph.
Although captioned as Broadford Old Church this prominent landmark on the road between Broadford and Torrin is better known today as Cill Chriosd, literally Christ’s Church. This church served as the Parish Church of Strath until 1843 when the congregation moved to a new church in Broadford. The peak of Blaven is just visible in the far distance to the right of the ruin.
The now photograph was taken in November 2011 with Blaven refusing to emerge from the clump of clouds around the summit.
